Infrastructure is a key enabler for agricultural industries. The department works within the Australian Government to facilitate agriculture related infrastructure issues, including Inland Rail, telecommunications and logistics. The department provides advice and support to other agencies, such as the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development and the Department of Communications and the Arts which are the lead Australian Government agencies in this area.
Informing the department's work on agriculture related infrastructure is a report, prepared by CSIRO and funded by the Australian Government's Agricultural Competitiveness White Paper, entitled 'TraNSIT: Unlocking options for efficient logistics infrastructure in Australian agriculture.'
The department is also responsible for a number of water programs within the Murray-Darling Basin under the Sustainable Rural Water Use and Infrastructure Program. Please see Water policy and resources for information about the department's work in this area.
