Importers are responsible for ensuring that tyres are imported free from biosecurity risk material (BRM). If contamination is found by the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources, remedial cleaning will be required. The department may direct the tyres to be exported from Australia if it determines the biosecurity risk is too great to allow cleaning in Australia.
This requirement applies to all imported new and used tyres, whether fitted to machinery or loose.
Import information on tyres can be found on the department's Biosecurity Import Conditions (BICON) system.
