The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources has completed a Regulation Impact Statement (RIS) examining whether export tariff rate quota regulations could be streamlined. The RIS was approved on 28 June 2018.

Background
The RIS commenced in 2016 and was developed in line with the Australian Government Guide to Regulation (available on the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet website). The purpose of the RIS was to examine whether export tariff rate quota regulation could be streamlined. The RIS considered four options; remaining with the status quo, a non-regulatory approach, an option that proposes to streamline processes, and an industry-tailored, tiered management approach.
Consultation on the RIS was held from 30 March to 16 August 2017. The department held day-long workshops with stakeholders in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane during May. The department developed a revised option based on workshop feedback and provided additional papers for further consultation. Several written submissions were provided by stakeholders.
