Purpose
The purpose of this notice is to advise importers and brokers about a temporary cessation of border controls for the inspection and analysis of carbon monoxide (CO) treatment of fresh, chilled or frozen tuna and barramundi fillets, portions and cutlets.
What has changed?
We are temporarily ceasing surveillance testing of these foods while a comparative review takes place. The appointed analyst under the Imported Food Inspection Scheme is reviewing the current method of testing against other methods used internationally for verification purposes.
When will this change take effect?
The department will temporarily cease testing on 30 May 2019. Information about recommencement of testing will be published following the review.
