Purpose
To advise all stakeholders that consultation on the Australian Government’s commitment to phase out live sheep exports by sea has commenced. The consultation paper and feedback form are available on the department’s Have Your Say platform until 31 May 2023.

Background
The Australian Government has committed to phasing out live sheep exports from Australia by sea. The phase out will not take place during the current term of Australian Parliament. This is to provide time for individuals and businesses to prepare for the transition away from live sheep exports by sea.
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Senator the Hon Murray Watt has appointed the independent panel to consult with stakeholders across Australia via face-to-face and virtual forums and seeking written submissions.
