This Biosecurity Advice notifies stakeholders of the release of the Draft import risk analysis report for fresh salacca (snake fruit) from Indonesia.

This draft report is being issued for 60 days consultation. Written comments and submissions are invited by 6 April 2014.
Biosecurity Advice 2012/28, of 21 December 2012, announced the formal commencement of an import risk analysis (IRA) to consider a proposal to import fresh salacca (snake fruit) from Indonesia.
This Biosecurity Advice notifies stakeholders of the release of the Draft import risk analysis report for fresh salacca (snake fruit) from Indonesia. Stakeholders have until 6 April 2014 to provide written comments on the draft report.
The draft report identifies four pests of potential quarantine concern to Australia associated with the trade of fresh salacca fruit from Indonesia. These are mealybugs from three genera (Dysmicoccus sp., Planococcus sp., Pseudococcus sp.) and one fungus (Marasmius palmivorus).
Pest risk assessments were conducted for the four pests and the assessments conclude that the overall risk does not exceed Australia’s appropriate level of protection.
The draft report proposes Indonesia’s existing commercial production practices for the production of fresh salacca fruit for export, combined with a system of operational procedures to ensure quarantine standards are met, will provide an appropriate level of protection to address any risks of exotic pests or diseases entering Australia.
Printed copies can be provided, if required.
Comments on the draft report must be submitted by 6 April 2014 to:
