This Animal Biosecurity Advice Notice announces the publication of the ‘Import risk review for natural casings: issues paper’. The department is undertaking this consultation with the intention of publishing a draft report for the importation of natural casings.
The department invites stakeholders to put forward preliminary submissions in anticipation of the draft report. Interested stakeholders should provide submissions by 5pm Tuesday, 28 January 2025.
The issues paper is available for review and comment on our Have Your Say website.
We have released an issues paper in support of our ongoing review of the biosecurity risks attached to the importation of natural sausage casings for human consumption into Australia.
We have initiated this review in response to requests to update the ‘Importation of Sausage Casings into Australia - Import Risk Analysis (1999)’. This paper considers the effectiveness of the proposed alternative to country freedom that was put to the department by industry, noting that this closely reflects the current recommendations of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).
The 60-day comment period on this paper will commence on Tuesday, 26 November 2024 and will conclude at 5pm (AEDT) Tuesday, 28 January 2025.
We invite you to have your say on this paper. We will then consider all stakeholder comments received, to prepare the draft report.
We invite stakeholders interested in receiving information and updates on biosecurity risk analyses to subscribe via our online subscription service. By subscribing to ‘Biosecurity Risk Analysis Animal’, you will receive Biosecurity Advice notices and other notifications relating to animal biosecurity policy, including this risk analysis.
