The department, through the Animal Health Committee (AHC) Task Group on the import and management of exotic disease agents, has completed its revision of the policy for the importation of live infectious agents into Australia. This included consultation on the conditions of importing lumpy skin disease virus to the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness, which is described in the Inspector-General of Biosecurity’s Assurance review for arrangements to import live lumpy skin disease virus to CSIRO’s Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness.
The revised policy replaces the existing policy for the importation of exotic animal disease agents, which was established in 2000 by the then VetCom (now AHC).
A factsheet reflecting the policy is available. Stakeholders are invited to provide comments on the factsheet via email at animalbiosecurity@aff.gov.au.
