The department has published the final report from the review after considering all stakeholder feedback.
On 25 March 2019 the department issued Biosecurity Advice 2019-A01 inviting comments on the draft report from the review of biosecurity risks associated with importing zoo bovids and their semen from approved countries.
Following stakeholder feedback, some conditions in the draft review have been amended. The updated conditions have been made to address changes in knowledge about the risks associated with certain diseases, and to provide more options for the import of zoo bovids and their semen while still managing the biosecurity risks to a level consistent with Australia’s appropriate level of protection (ALOP).
The department has now finalised the review. The final report includes the proposed import conditions that can be used to manage the biosecurity risks associated with the importation of zoo bovids and their semen from approved countries. Importers will soon be able to apply for a permit via BICON. Register in BICON to receive an alert when the import conditions are published.
