The mortality rate for the entire voyage was 0.88%. | A reportable level of 3.37% occurred for a consignment on this voyage. The department is investigating the cause of this mortality event and when complete the investigation report will be available on the department’s website. To date the department has written to the exporter seeking information on the cause of the incident, and an explanation of the procedures the exporter has put in place to avoid a repeat of this incident. The exporter advised that they have improved their selection of high risk cattle (heavy bulls/cull cows), minimised extra time these animals spend in registered premises when there are known vessel delays, and continued BRD vaccinations. There have been no reportable mortality events for this exporter since this incident. |
