The Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has overall responsibility for representing Australia's interests in international and regional forums and processes where forestry matters are discussed. These include:

- Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
- International Tropical Timber Organization
- Montréal Process
- Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation
- Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation
Other international forums
The department also provides policy advice on forestry matters to other forums and activities which are the responsibility of other Australian Government agencies, such as the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research, CSIRO, and the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. These include:

- The United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development
- The World Conservation Union the (International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources)
