From 1 July 2019, the Emergency Plant Pest Response (EPPR) levy for bananas will decrease from 0.75 cents per kilogram to nil.
The EPPR levy was activated on 1 July 2015 to repay approximately $12 million to the Australian Government in costs relating to the 2013 emergency response to banana freckle in the Northern Territory. The Australian Government officially announced the successful eradication of banana freckle from the Northern Territory on 1 February 2019.
Changes to the levy rates are shown in the table below:
