Effective date for levy returns: 1 July 2020
From 1 July 2020, the research and development (R&D) component of the rice levy, will increase from $2.94 per tonne to $5.94 per tonne. The total rice levy rate will be $6.00 per tonne. It will apply to the bi-annual rice return for the levy period ending 31 December 2020 that is due by 28 January 2021 and onwards.
The levy is payable by the producer, for rice delivered to processors. The levy increase provides additional funding to the rice R&D program to undertake high priority R&D activities for the benefits of the Australian rice industry.
Changes to the levy rates are shown in the table below:
