From 1 July 2017, the laying chickens Emergency Animal Disease Response (EADR) levy component of 1.4 cents per chick will be set to zero. The EADR levy component was used to repay the industry’s share of costs to respond to an outbreak of avian influenza.
The laying chickens levy rates are shown in the table below:

GST does not apply to Australian Government levies and charges.
Who is affected by the change to the laying chickens levy rate?
A producer, the proprietor of the hatchery where the laying chickens are hatched is affected by the levy rate change. A producer is liable to pay the levy and must lodge a monthly return and make a payment to the department.
From 1 July 2017, please ensure that you calculate your levy liability using the new 14.17 cents per chick levy rate. Please note that your July return is due on or before 30 September 2017.
