About this response
In October 2016, the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) adopted 51 amendments to the list of species protected by the treaty. The amendments came into force internationally on 2 January 2017.
On 19 June 2017 the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties tabled its report on CITES, supporting the treaty action and making two recommendations on CITES matters.
The Australian Government has accepted both recommendations.
