Subject: Comments on Biosecuirity Australia Advice 2009/06 - Draft IRA report for ornamental finfish with respect to Iridoviruses
If there are restrictions on imports of Goramis for health reasons this may be an opportunity for a new ornamental aquaculture based on supplying the ornamental trade with clean fish. If a GIV test can be done on brood stock then numbers raised for local trade certified GIV free. Is anyone promoting types of aquaculture that may be profitable. This may be a good one to get into. After all the Federal Government tells us the ornamental fish trade is worth $350,000,000 per year. I would like to submit the following comment for the Aquaculture Committee in case they donr meet before the due date, perhaps with Adams help it can be sent to the other members. “That no Goramis be allowed into Australia unless they are certified GIV free. That the local production of GIV free ornamental fishes be promoted by Federal and State Governments.”
