We have prepared a draft report on the importation of live snails from approved countries.
Steps to complete this risk analysis
When we do a risk analysis, we:
- start by reviewing the evidence on pests and diseases of concern
- assess and analyse biosecurity risks
- develop proposed risk management measures
- consult the public on the draft report and then review comments
- publish the final report develop import conditions
- publish import conditions in our Biosecurity Import Conditions System (BICON).

About the draft report
This review was initiated due to requests from members of the public, with specific commercial interests in developing breeding lines of snails to expand the Australian heliciculture industry.
The draft report proposes to allow the importation of live garden snails (Cornu aspersum) into Australia from approved countries, subject to a range of biosecurity measures.
This draft report should be read in conjunction with the 2020 review of Proposed importation of Garden Snail (Cornu aspersum).
