Dr Michele Allan AO, the independent reviewer of the Intergovernmental Agreement on Biosecurity (IGAB) issued a discussion paper for public consultation seeking feedback from Australian biosecurity stakeholders on potential improvements to the IGAB
The public consultation was hosted on the department's Have your say consultation hub from Thursday 15 August 2024 for 5 weeks. Input was received from a range of participants in the national biosecurity system including governments, agricultural industries, environmental groups, First Nations groups and community members.
Throughout the 2024 review, additional targeted consultation occurred with key stakeholders and other interested parties.
Dr Allan’s response to the consultations and submissions was consolidated into a final report and a set of recommendations which was provided to agriculture ministers for their consideration on 22 January 2025. It is anticipated that Australian agriculture ministers will consider Dr Allan’s final report and recommendations and develop a joint government response prior to releasing the final report.
