26 June 2024
Purpose
This Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to notify industry of changes to the Plant Export Management System (PEMS).
Summary of changes and key points
- We are improving cyber security to PEMS.
- From Friday 28 June 2024, you will no longer be able to attach outdated word document formats, emails or rich text items into PEMS.
- PEMS will no longer accept __.doc, __.msg and __.rft file types as attachments and an error message will appear if they are uploaded.
- Approved file types PDF, DOCX, JPG, JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF, TIF, TIFF will be able to be uploaded.
- Rich text and email messages that have been converted to PDF may be uploaded (for more information regarding how to convert file types please refer to the ‘What’s new, What’s different: Quick reference guide 27 June 2024).
Background
A routine internal cyber security assessment was conducted on PEMS, identifying that __.doc, __.msg and __.rft file types were more susceptible to harmful software. There is a risk that harm could also transfer through to vendor and agent software.
As a result, the department is no longer able to accept these file types as external attachments uploaded into PEMS.
