What is the Consultative Committee on Emergency Animal Disease (CCEAD)?
CCEAD is a coordinating body providing the technical link between industry, the Australian Government, and state and territory governments for decision making during animal health emergencies.
Membership
CCEAD membership comprises the Australian and state and territory Chief Veterinary Officers, representatives from the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, the Australian Animal Health Laboratory (CSIRO) and industry bodies. Animal Health Australia also attends meetings. CCEAD is chaired by Australia's Chief Veterinary Officer.
What does CCEAD do?
CCEAD coordinates and makes decisions on the national, technical response to emergency animal disease incidents of animal health, public health or trade significance. Where applicable, CCEAD advises the National Emergency Animal Disease Management Group (NMG) on funding mechanisms for responses, particularly as it relates to the Emergency Animal Disease Response Agreement.
Scope of CCEAD activities
CCEAD shares information about the evolution of events until it decides the disease or threat no longer exists or a national response is no longer required. At this time, responsibility for the issue may then be handed to other bodies.
