Who does this notice affect?
Biosecurity industry participants that operate an approved arrangement.
What has happened?
The department has taken regulatory action against biosecurity industry participants for releasing goods subject to biosecurity control prior to being advised by the department that they can be released.
The department is aware of the importance of the timely movement of goods post-fumigation to ensure product quality, specifically for perishable goods. In some cases the desire to move has translated to a failure to comply with requirements.
Biosecurity industry participants/importers/brokers/agents are reminded that goods must not be released from control until such time as a release is provided by a biosecurity officer. This will only be provided upon submission and assessment of fumigation records. Where the department identifies that goods are released without prior approval, noncompliance action will be initiated.
