Who does this notice affect?
This notice is of interest to importers of timber and timber products and associated industry participants and retailers.
What has changed?
Import industry advice notice 07-2017 advises that changes to the BICON case for Timber commodities are to be implemented on 9/02/2017. These changes are being postponed following important industry feedback.
The Import Conditions Review (ICR) of timber commodities by Plant Import Operations proposed a new BICON case structure and some changes to import conditions for a number of timber-based commodities. The ICR identified that the proposed changes will be a significant boon to industry. While the department still intends to make the changes outlined in Import industry advice notice 07-2017, further consultation with industry is required to ensure that clients are well informed about the proposed changes and prepared to meet any new certification requirements.
The department will seek further guidance from industry about an appropriate phase-in period for any new conditions, and generate appropriate advice and information to assist clients with implementation and compliance.
Further information
Further information, including a revised implementation date, will soon be made available in specific Import industry advice notices and BICON alerts.
