Who does this notice affect?
The illegal logging laws affect businesses that import regulated timber and timber products of specific Customs tariff codes within Chapters 44 (wood and wood articles), 47 (pulp), 48 (paper and paperboard) and 94 (furniture) into Australia.
This notice affects importers of regulated timber products or timber inputs from Russia who rely on Russian PEFC certification to demonstrate compliance with Australia’s illegal logging legislation.
What has changed?
PEFC International previously advised that all certificates issued under Russia’s National Forest Certification Scheme had ceased to be recognised by PEFC from 3 September 2015.
PEFC International has advised Russia has successfully achieve PEFC re-endorsement of its national forest certification system. Certificates issued under Russia’s National Forest Certification Scheme are now recognised by PEFC.
