14 July 2016
Purpose
To advise industry that from 1 July 2016, the Biosecurity Act 2015 extended to Norfolk Island and the Export Control Act 1982 no longer applies to plant and plant products exported from Australian States and Territories into Norfolk Island.
Summary of changes and key points
Export certification issued under the Export Control Act 1982 including an export permit and phytosanitary certificate is no longer required for plants and plant products exported from Australian States and Territories into Norfolk Island.
The importation of goods into Norfolk Island must now be in accordance with the Biosecurity (prohibited and Conditionally Non-prohibited Goods—Norfolk Island) Determination 2016. The determination provides information specific to Norfolk Island about the conditions for import. Unless the determination specifies that an exemption applies, or sets out the import conditions, an import permit from the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources may be required prior to the importation of the goods.
