Purpose
To advise industry that there may be disruptions to the supply of methyl bromide from Israel, Australia’s main source of the chemical.
Key Points
- The department has been made aware that industrial action in Israel is threatening to disrupt supplies of the fumigant, methyl bromide, around the world. While there are several other supply pathways, the department understands that historically Israel has been a main source of chemical for Australia.
- Exporters who are proposing to use methyl bromide should liaise with their treatment provider to ensure that treatments can be applied. The department may be able to provide advice on alternatives that are acceptable to the importing country, if this information is available.
