16 February 2015
Purpose
To advise industry of the new conditions for the export of mangoes and lychees from Australia to USA.
Background
The Australian Department of Agriculture and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) have signed the Pilot Audit Program for Irradiation Treatment and Certification of Mango and Lychee (Fruit) from Australia Operational Work Plan (OWP). The OWP is to be referred to in conjunction with conditions in the USDA Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Manual.
Key Points
The new market access conditions are now in effect. The OWP details export requirements for mango and lychee fruit undergoing irradiation as phytosanitary treatment. The pilot program requires export approval for growers, packhouses and treatment facilities. Advice regarding the export approval process for the next season (2015-16 period) will be provided in an industry advice notice in the second half of 2015.
Please visit Micor Plants to view the Micor cases for mango and lychee. In order to view the OWP online you are required to be registered. To register please select ‘register with Plant Exports’. To view the conditions in the USDA Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Manual, please visit the APHIS website.
