17 October 2016
Purpose
To advise processors and exporters that:
- advice has been received from the Scallop Fishermen’s Association of Tasmania that regular biotoxin testing of whole scallops (meat, roe and viscera) has resumed in the harvest area east of King Island within the Bass Strait Central Zone Scallop Fishery (BSCZSF).
- resumption of testing of whole scallops (meat, roe and viscera) from the above harvest area means that analysis results are not required to be submitted to the department to obtain export documentation for consignments of whole scallops harvested from this area in the BSCZSF.
Export requirements for biotoxin testing
Further information about export requirements for biotoxin testing can be found in Industry Advice Notice: 2016-08 Biotoxin management for scallops in 2016.
Failure to comply with this notice will result in sanctions which may include suspension of scallop harvest operations for export or suspension of export registration.
Further notices may be issued if there are changes to scallop biotoxin management arrangements.
