The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources has been advised by Hong Kong’s Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department that the import ban on Australian mussels sourced from the Spring Bay harvest area has been lifted as of 6 September 2016. The department has resumed issuing export certification for mussels harvested from Spring Bay on or after this date to Hong Kong.
CFS have advised that mussels sourced from Spring Bay will continue to be subjected to a biotoxin test and release regime until CFS is satisfied there is no food safety risk.
The department will advise industry of any further developments through the distribution of market access advices.
