This Market Access Advice (MAA) replaces MAA 2012-22.
In May 2015 Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) conducted a review of the Tasmanian Shellfish Quality Assurance Program and changes introduced since the detection of paralytic shellfish toxin in mussels in 2012. MHLW, as a result of this review, has lifted the 100% on-arrival testing requirements that were imposed in 2012.
Effective 28 May 2015, on arrival testing requirements for Tasmanian origin bivalve shellfish has returned to routine (5% test and release) arrangements.
Please note, routine testing requirements are now in place for bivalve shellfish originating from New South Wales, South Australia and Tasmania only.
The 100% test and hold on-arrival testing requirements still apply for bivalve shellfish originating from export eligible harvest areas in all other Australian States and Territories.
