Date of Effect: 19 February 2013
Effective immediately, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) is unable to certify consignments of non-viable fish and fishery products intended to be used for bait, feeding directly to other aquatic animals, feed manufactured for aquatic animals, research, diagnostic or testing purposes for export to Canada. For information on the export of live fish for these purposes, please contact DAFF Animal Biosecurity Branch by email Alistair Herfort or phone +61 2 6272 4009.
Effective 8 April 2013, DAFF will also be unable to certify consignments fish and fishery products intended for human consumption that are not processed, packaged or in a ready to eat form at the time of export.
DAFF understands there are no changes to certification arrangements for non-viable fish and fishery products intended for human consumption that are processed, packaged or in a ready to eat form at the time of export.
The above certification restrictions follow the introduction by the Canadian Food, Inspection Agency (CFIA) of new import requirements for consignments of live and non-viable whole fish and fishery products intended for human consumption, and certain non-viable fish and fishery products that present a risk of disease introduction.
Exporters who wish to send fish and fishery products mentioned above to Canada should email Alexandra McLaran or phone +61 2 6272 3064.
