The information in this Market Access Advice (MAA) replaces previous advice detailing PST testing requirements for Japan (MAA FISH 12/15).
Effective immediately, all Australian bivalve shellfish exported to Japan will be subject to 100 per cent on-arrival testing for PST.
This measure follows the detection by Japan’s Ministry for Health, Labour and Welfare of high levels of PST in exported shellfish harvested from a Tasmanian growing area.
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, in conjunction with the Tasmanian Shellfish Quality Assurance Program, are currently working with Japanese authorities to investigate the result and will advise industry on any changes to this requirement.
For further information on Japan’s contaminant standards, including biotoxin requirements, please refer to the Seafood Services Australia Trade and Market Access Database.
