Strengthening by China of its inspection and quarantine arrangements for imported salmon
The Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) has been advised that China’s General Administrant of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) has strengthened its inspection and quarantine arrangements related to imported salmon (AQSIQ Announcement No. 9 of 2011).
AQIS understand that the new measures, which came into effect on 20 February 2011 and focus on Chinese importer requirements, have been put into place in response to increased detection of food safety risks in salmon imported into China. AQSIQ have advised that if, at the time of import, supporting documentation does not meet relevant requirements or does not match the goods, the products will not be allowed to enter.
While AQIS understands that changes to Australian export requirements, including export health certification details, are not required, exporters should be aware that consignments may be subject to greater documentation checks at the time of import.
