Date of issue: 30 June 2009
Date of effect: 1 July 2009
In accordance with Commission Regulation (EC) No 1250/2008 of 12 December 2008, changes to the certification requirements for seafood exported to the European Union come into effect on 1 July 2009.
In line with these changes, which relate mainly to the format of the certificate, revised export certification will be issued by the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service commencing 1 July 2009 and EXDOC will default to the new certification.
The impact on trade resulting from these changes is expected to be minimal. However, please note the following restrictions:
- Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), Redfin perch (Perca fluviatilis) and the fish genera Catla, Channa, Labeo, Mastacembelus, Mugil, Putius and Trichogaster must be eviscerated prior to export.
- Bivalve molluscs can only be harvested from EU approved harvesting areas.
- Live Pacific Oysters (Crassostrea gigas) can only be exported in retail sale packages or if destined for further processing.
