Subject: Apples imported from the Peoples Republic of China
I am writing to comment on the biosecurity Australia advice dated 2009/01 Draft Import Risk Analysis Report for Fresh Apple Fruit from the People's Republic of China.
I am an Australian consumer, who values being able to buy locally produced apples from my supermarket or local fruit and vegetable grocer.
Given the 18 potential pests possibly brought into Australia through apples from the peoples republic of China, I believe that the import of these apples should be restriced.
If one of these pests did enter Australia the entire local industry could be threatened. I believe that the risk can only be fully minimised by prohibiting the import of these apples.
I urge you to prohit the import of these apples.
Sincerely
Kanthi Lewis
