Who does this notice affect?
Stakeholders in the import and shipping industries – including Biosecurity Industry Participants, master consolidators, vessel masters, freight forwarders, importers, customs brokers, and principal shipping agents – associated with the transportation or importation of returning Australian inorganic products.
What has changed?
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has developed import conditions for returning Australian products derived from inorganic ingredients.
Note: The existing import conditions for returning Australian ‘animal and microbial products excluding live animals’ and ‘plant products’ remain unchanged.
Why are these changes being made?
The addition of the inorganic products pathway to the Biosecurity Import Conditions Database (BICON) for returning Australian products completes the regulatory requirements for managing these products. The changes ensure appropriate conditions and requirements are in place to enable the importation and management of potential biosecurity risks associated with this category of goods.
