Who does this notice affect?
Importers of fresh foliage for ceremonial purposes, freight forwarders, brokers, Pathway Operations – Air & Sea Travellers and Detector Dog handlers, Pathway Operations - Mail, Gateway Facilities, Pathway Operations - Cargo Operations (Inspection, Assessment and Client Contact Group).
What has changed?
To facilitate inspection of foliage, the department is recommending importers, or their brokers arrange for packing lists to be provided to enable efficient sampling of cartons for inspection.
Packing lists should detail each cartons contents (including species of the foliage and total number of packets for each species), will allow the inspection officer to apply the most appropriate sampling rate across the consignment. This practice is especially important where individual cartons contain mixed foliage species.
Assisting the department by providing a packing list is not mandatory, however it will expedite sampling, inspection and clearance of consignments.
This recommendation applies to goods imported using the following BICON case: Fresh fruit and foliage for ceremonial purposes
