Who does this notice affect?
Stakeholders in the import of plant-based animal feed and fertilisers – including importers, customs agents, brokers and freight forwarders.
What has changed?
Additional community protection (CP) questions have been recently added to certain tariffs in the Integrated Cargo System (ICS) to ensure goods lodged under these tariffs intended to be used for direct animal feed or fertilisers are referred to the department for biosecurity intervention.
There have been no changes to the import conditions for plant-based animal feed and fertiliser, and a valid import permit is required prior to the importation of these goods to Australia. It is the responsibility of the importers and brokers to understand and comply with current import conditions.
The following information will assist in identifying import permit requirements prior to intended import of plant-based animal feed and fertilisers:
The department's Import home page provides general information about Biosecurity and Imported goods requirements.
