Who does this notice affect?
First point of entry (FPOE) operators, airlines, aircraft operators, importers, brokers, and others.
What has changed?
A new determination for Norfolk Island Airport commenced on 16 March 2023, Biosecurity (First Point of Entry—Norfolk Island International Airport) Determination 2023.
This new determination replaces the transitional determination previously in place for Norfolk Island Airport. As a result, there have been changes to the classes of goods permitted to arrive at the airport, as well as changes to the biosecurity entry points for classes of goods.
Norfolk Island Airport is a FPOE for aircraft generally. There has been no change to the type of aircraft permitted.
Norfolk Island Airport is now a FPOE for baggage and general goods. The determination does not permit biosecurity waste or live horses to be unloaded.
Aircraft operators planning to unload biosecurity waste or live horses at Norfolk Island Airport, must apply to the department for prior permission. Approval is not guaranteed.
It is the obligation of the person in charge of an aircraft to ensure that the aircraft complies with the relevant FPOE determination. Aircraft operators and other stakeholders should consult the relevant FPOE determination to ensure that the proposed aircraft or goods movements are compliant.
