9 October 2023
Who does this notice affect?
Those in industries reliant on grain, importers and customs brokers, logistics and storage facilities, approved arrangement holders, processing and manufacturing facilities, and plant and animal related peak industry bodies.
What has changed?
With weather forecasts predicting a shift to drier conditions in the years ahead, demand for imported whole grain may increase. During previous drought periods, many importers have not been adequately prepared to meet Australia’s biosecurity (pest and disease) import requirements. We encourage you to plan ahead and engage with us early to ensure a smoother import process.
If you would like to better understand the biosecurity requirements for importing bulk whole grain, come along to our virtual information session on Thursday 12 October 2023 from 11:30am until 1:00pm AEDT (NSW, Vic, Tas, ACT), commencing at 11:00am ACDT (SA) | 10:30am AEST (Qld) | 10:00am ACST (NT) | 8:30am AWST (WA).
The information session will cover:
- how to obtain an import permit
- the risk assessment process
- transport and storage of imported grain onshore
- processing requirements.
To register your interest in attending this session, please visit Eventbrite and follow the prompts. Registration will close on 11 October. Instructions to join the session will be emailed to registered stakeholders closer to the date.
