18 July 2023
Who does this notice affect?
This notice is for importers and customs brokers of horticultural fresh produce.
What has changed?
Import conditions for fresh melon fruit from the Republic of Korea (Korea) will be published on BICON on 1 August 2023. Fresh melons permitted to be imported into Australia from Korea are oriental melons and rockmelons.
Fresh oriental melon and rockmelon fruit will be permitted to be imported into Australia from Korea between 1 December and 31 May each year, subject to Korea’s National Plant Protection Organisation having inspected and certified the melons for export within that period.
Importers will require a biosecurity import permit to import fresh melons from Korea. An import permit may be obtained by submitting an import permit application to the department accessible via the 'Apply Now' button at the bottom of BICON page.
Fresh melons from Korea will also be subject to the department’s Imported Food Inspection Scheme to verify safety and compliance with Australia’s food standards. Further information is available at Fruits and vegetables
