2 March 2022
Who does this notice affect?
Stakeholders in the import and shipping industries including importers, customs brokers, freight forwarders, transport companies, shipping lines, stevedores and any other operators in the sea container supply and logistics chain that may seek to lodge a departmental postcode reclassification request.
What has changed?
The department is undertaking a review of its current postcode classification assessment framework (the assessment framework) to ensure it remains effective in managing biosecurity risks associated with imported sea cargo, travelling through or for delivery to key agricultural areas.
This review of the assessment framework will consider increased urban growth, shifts in land use types, changes to sea cargo import pathways, new and emerging biosecurity risks and rural transiting requirements.
The department will not accept any postcode reclassification applications whilst the assessment framework is being reviewed. The department expects this review to be completed in the third quarter of 2022.
Further advice on the rural postcode reclassifications will be released following the completion of this review.
