21 December 2022
Who does this notice affect?
Import-related biosecurity treatment stakeholders, including all importers, brokerages, onshore approved arrangement holders, overseas government and treatment industry entities, relevant domestic state and territory government agencies, and other shipping, freight, and logistics peak industry bodies.
What has changed?
We have been reviewing the Methyl Bromide Fumigation Methodology. We are developing a methodology that aims to communicate our requirements clearly, to help treatment providers meet regulations and to give us assurance that fumigations are correctly applied.
We told you we would talk to you about the proposed changes to the methodology this year. We engaged with your industry representatives and understand that December and January are a busy peak period for your industry, so we have agreed to push back the consultation period to next year.
We're excited for you to be part of the consultation and will use your feedback to make sure we have made the right changes and to influence further improvements to the methodology. We will open consultation using our Have Your Say platform in late January.
We also encourage biosecurity industry stakeholders to let us know if they are interested in joining our Virtual Industry Roundtable consultation session in March 2023. To do so, please email your details to afas@aff.gov.au
