Who does this notice affect?
Stakeholders in the import and shipping industries—including vessel masters, freight forwarders, treatment providers, Biosecurity Industry Participants, importers, customs brokers, principle agents and master consolidators—associated with importing goods that require increased intervention during the 2022-23 BMSB Risk season.
What has changed?
The Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries have opened applications to join Offshore BMSB treatment providers scheme (the scheme) for new and renewing treatment providers.
- All BMSB treatment providers in target risk countries must be approved under the scheme to conduct BMSB treatments on goods bound for Australia and/or New Zealand.
- Treatment providers that were registered under the scheme during the 2021-22 BMSB risk season must complete a renewal form for the 2022-23 BMSB risks season. Pre-populated forms have been emailed to all treatment providers registered in the 2021-22 BMSB risk season.
An updated list of approved offshore BMSB treatment providers will be established for the 2022-23 BMSB season and will be available on the Offshore BMSB treatment providers scheme webpage from 1 August 2022.
The department encourages stakeholders in the import and shipping industries to make prospective offshore BMSB treatment providers aware of the requirement to register for the 2022-23 BMSB risk season.
