4 November 2020
Who does this notice affect?
First point of entry (FPOE) operators at ports and landing places, including port and airport authorities, wharf operators, stevedores, fixed base operators and others.
What has changed?
New template biosecurity risk response procedures have been developed to help FPOE operators meet their obligations under the Biosecurity Act 2015 and Biosecurity Regulation 2016:
- Biosecurity risk response procedure template (ports)
- Biosecurity risk response procedure template (landing places)
In order to demonstrate and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, FPOE operators must have documented procedures in place for identifying, reporting and managing biosecurity risks associated with their operations.
The new templates contain the updated minimum requirements of a biosecurity risk response procedure.
Operators seeking determination as an FPOE or designation as a biosecurity entry point can use the relevant template to develop a procedure specific to their operations that meets FPOE regulatory requirements.
Existing FPOE operators must update their current procedure using the new templates. Once updated, FPOE operators must send their procedure to biosecurityfirstpoints@awe.gov.au.
