Who does this notice affect?
Clients in the import and shipping industries—including freight forwarders, importers and customs brokers—associated with importing goods that require BMSB treatment during the BMSB risk season (goods shipped between 1 September 2019 that arrive in Australian territory by 31 May 2020 (inclusive).
What has changed?
Following an on-site compliance assessment conducted by the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (department) and MPI have reinstated Italian treatment provider Centro Disinfestazione Livornse Srl (IT4004SB) to conduct BMSB heat and sulfuryl fluoride treatments.
Offshore treatment provider?
Centro Disinfestazione Livornse Srl (IT4004SB) will be reinstated and listed as ‘Accepted’ on the Offshore BMSB Treatment Providers Scheme’s List of offshore BMSB treatment providers and can perform BMSB methyl bromide treatments on Australian bound consignments.
- Treatments conducted on or after the reinstatement date will be accepted and assessed for validity on arrival,
- Treatments conducted on or after the suspension date, and before the reinstatement date, will not be accepted by the department. No allowances will be made for goods in transit.
- Treatments conducted before the suspension will be managed as per Industry Advice Notice 177-2019 - Offshore Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) Treatment Providers Scheme: treatment provider suspension: Centro Disinfestazione Livornse Srl (IT4004SB)
