Who does this notice affect?
Importers of chrysanthemum cut flowers from Malaysia
What has changed?
The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment has suspended the systems approach and alternative NPPO approved disinfestation treatment measures for chrysanthemum cut flowers from Malaysia due to repeated detections of Liriomyza huidobrensis (Serpentine leaf miner) which is one of Australia’s most unwanted plant pests.
From 15 July 2020, chrysanthemum flowers produced in Malaysia will require evidence on accompanying phytosanitary certificates that they have been methyl bromide fumigated at the rate of 32 g/m³ for three hours at 21°C or greater.
All consignments of Malaysian chrysanthemums certified before 15 July 2020 that do not include evidence on the phytosanitary certificate of methyl bromide fumigation at the rate of 32 g/m³ for three hours at 21°C or greater will be directed for fumigation on arrival in Australia.
Consignments certified on or after 15 July 2020 without evidence of pre-shipment fumigation will be exported or destroyed on arrival in Australia.
These conditions will remain in effect until the department is able to undertake a review of the offshore pest management measures.
