Who does this notice affect?
This notice applies to importers and customs agents of fresh garlic bulbs imported for human consumption.
What has changed?
From 1 September 2019, all importers of fresh garlic bulbs for human consumption must have a valid import permit prior to the goods being imported into Australia, as advised in IAN 100-2019.
An import permit may be obtained by submitting an import permit application to the department (if viewed online using BICON, use the 'Apply Now' button at the bottom of the page).
All goods entering Australia must continue to meet the import condtions listed in the departments Biosecurity Import Conditions database (BICON) and those listed on the import permit.
Fresh garlic bulbs for human consumption, imported without a permit from 1 September 2019, will be subject to export or destruction.
