Who does this notice affect?
This notice is of interest to importers (and their customs brokers) of fresh asparagus from Mexico and Peru.
What has changed?
The Department of Agriculture will require mandatory pre-shipment methyl bromide fumigation for fresh asparagus from Mexico and Peru.
This requirement commences from 15 August 2019. Phytosanitary certificates for fresh asparagus from Mexico and Peru, certified from 15 August 2019, will require evidence that they have been fumigated at one of the following schedules:

16°C to 20.9 °C | 40 g/m³ | 2 hours |
11°C to 15.9 °C | 48 g/m³ | 2 hours |
10°C to 10.9 °C | 56 g/m³ | 2 hours |
Note: Fumigation is not permitted if the ambient minimum temperature falls below 10 °C.
