Who does this notice affect?
Clients in the import and shipping industries—including freight forwarders, importers and customs brokers—associated with importing goods that require BMSB treatment during the BMSB risk season (goods shipped between 1 September 2018 and 30 April 2019 inclusive).
What has changed?
Following compliance assessments undertaken by the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (department) of previously suspended BMSB heat treatment providers in Italy, the department has reinstated Nuova Cianidrica Srl (AEI: IT4002SB), La Spezia Container Terminal (AEI: IT4013SB) and Radit Srl (AEI: IT4006SB) to conduct BMSB Heat Treatments only. Radit Srl will not be reinstated to conduct BMSB Sulfuryl Fluoride Treatments. A pathway forward for this will be determined at a later date.
Offshore treatment providers
Nuova Cianidrica Srl (AEI: IT4002SB), La Spezia Container Terminal (AEI: IT4013SB) and Radit Srl (AEI: IT4006SB) will be reinstated and listed as ‘Acceptable’ on the Offshore BMSB Treatment Providers Scheme’s List of Treatment Providers and can perform BMSB heat treatments on Australian bound consignments.
- Treatments conducted on or after the reinstatement date will be accepted and assessed for validity on arrival,
- Treatments conducted on or after the suspension date, and before the reinstatement date, will not be accepted by the department. This decision is effective immediately and no allowances will be made for goods in transit.
- Treatments conducted before the suspension will be managed as per Industry Advice Notice 195-2018 - Loading and shipment of break bulk cargo treated by suspended treatment providers.
