Who does this notice affect?
This notice is of interest to importers of uncooked peeled prawns for human consumption, and associated industry participants and retailers.
Reminder
Each primary package must include a batch number that aligns with the batch number detailed on the accompanying health certificate.
Primary packaging is the retail ready or commercial packaging of the product. Secondary packaging (i.e. the outer carton) is not considered the primary packaging.
Missing batch details on primary packaging and batch numbers identified only on the secondary packaging are not compliant with Australia’s import conditions for uncooked prawns.
Consignments that fail to meet import conditions must be exported, disposed of or treated (i.e. cooked) at a facility with an approved arrangement.
